How to create Levitation Photos?

Inspired by DigitalRev and Yowa Yowa Camera we decided to spend some time this weekend on something a little lighter and purely for fun. Levitational photos. What are levitation photos you ask? Well here is one sample from Yowa Yowa. Check out her website for more inspiration. She is a pro and does it so naturally. Note: No Photoshop required. Just a little energy in jumping :P

For our first attempt I think these aren't too bad. What do you think? Mind over matter! Definitely will be revisiting this next time.

Tips to make it look natural.

  • Capture the photo when you're on the way up. That way, your hair won't be flying around making it more believable. Alternatively, gel everything in place.
  • Lean your upper body forward.
  • Relax your shoulders and arms to make it look more natural like you are floating.
  • Flex your toes
  • Practice, Practice, Practice
  • Shutter speed priority at 1/800 or 1/1000
  • Just have fun

Check out Digital Rev's youtube on the topic.
