South West Sydney Smackdown

It was a scorcher day at the Campbeltown Athletic Stadium. 34 degree celsius to be exact. Besides fanatic Crossfitters, who else would be doing olympic lifting and strongman activities in this heat? A well organised event by Crossfit South West Sydney, the Smackdown felt a little game like. "Game-like" for the location and strongman activities you would never really do at the Box (well most Boxes). There was the concrete Atlas ball, the yoke and super heavy cleans. It's definitely a comp not for the weak hearted. The Atlas ball was featured in the individual advanced category. 53kgs for men and 42kg for women. Not much difference if you asked me. Awkward to keep a hold on, you are constantly inspired by the determination of the athletes and their team who cheers them on. Some triumph, while others fail however their is never a real failure. Those who triumph walk away thinking they've just achieved something they thought was impossible. Those who fail, walk away knowing their limits and that they can come back and do better next time. The team yoke event was one of the highlights. At 240kgs that "$&*##&*@*" times my weight. I had to squint each time the yoke was dropped wondering when someone's toe is going to get squashed. That would not be a pretty sight. Luckily this never happened. A big congrats to all those who competed. Particularly those who competed for the first time as this as a BIG one to start with. Here are the results and some photos we took. For workout descriptions, click here.

Did you See Crossfit St Mary kid's smashing it? Crossfit Inner West killed it in the Open team's category. Regardless of the leaderboard I bet your team was smashing out PRs. Ours was and that's what it's all about. For full results click here.
